When envisioning traveling to Australia it is hard not to think of the expansive coastline that makes up the
country.
An island destination, the population of Australia dwells mostly on the coastlines. Aussies have a particular calling to the water and love to share paradise with visitors. Below is a list of our favorite ways to experience the wonders of Australia:
Swimming with the Whale Sharks and Humpbacks at Ningaloo Reef, Western Australia
Ningaloo Reef on the western coast is one of the best places in the world to swim with enormous whale sharks as well as Humpback Whales! This incredible reef system is the only reef directly accessible from the shore and it is known for the massive whale sharks that visit daily during the season. Here you are able to swim with these gentle giants in their natural habitat. Unlike whale shark tours in Mexico, these tours don’t require you to wear a life vest, so you can get right
up close to the animals (just don’t touch!).
Snorkeling and diving on the Great Barrier Reef, Queensland
The Great Barrier Reef is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, filled with beautiful coral and unique marine life. This massive reef supports an amazingly diverse ecosystem, made up of 350 different species of dazzling corals, over 1,500 species of tropical fish, 10,000 types of sponges, 125 types of sharks, and 4,000 species of mollusks. No trip to Australia is complete without snorkeling or diving in the Great Barrier Reef!
Swimming with the Sealions and Sharks, South Australia
If you’re feeling really adventurous, head to Port Lincoln for some more
up-close encounters with Australia’s marine wildlife. At this laid back seaside town, you can swim with playful sea lions and even go cage diving with Great White Sharks.
Learning how to surf on the famous Bondi Beach, New South Wales
Why just be a spectator at Bondi Beach when you can get in amongst the waves and the locals and learn to surf for yourself. Here you can take a 2-hour surf lesson with our mates, Let’s Go Surfing, to learn the basics. I promise you will able to catch a wave or two on your own by the end.
Paddle with a platypus, Tasmania
Take a day out with our mates at Tassie Bound Adventures in Tasmania and you will have the opportunity to slow down, spot
platypus in their natural habitat, and learn about their very secretive lives. This kayaking tour guarantees a 95% chance of seeing up to 5-10 platypus—a rare opportunity since they are such shy creatures!
